Wairoa Weaving Wananga – Day 2 – 23-25 Jan 2015

Kia ora whanau, hope you are all having a fabulous day and this weather is not getting you too down in Gizzy. I must say it is a bit more pleasant than some of the scorcher days we had been having earlier – either way positive thoughts means positive vibrations, no matter what life brings – we are the creators of our world view – so let’s make it a goodie.

So on Saturday, while most people in Gizzy were getting ready for a good time at East Coast Vibes – we were up in Wairoa Teaching a basic Introduction of Weaving to some very keen learners who were so patient with us and enjoyed the challenge of learning this special Art form – that connects us to the whenua (land), tangata (people), Whanau (family) and keeps us thankful to the creator of all things (Io matua kore), God.

Here the ladies are working on their first Konae Kete (2 cornered kete) which will be gifted once finished.

Tidying up and finishing their 1st kete.

Erin working with one of the students to lock off top of her kete and the revision we had done earlier that morning to keep what they had learned the day before fresh in their minds.

Another awesome, productive day and a few lessons we as the kaiako learnt to deal with our workload better and more efficient for the next day.

Hope you enjoyed the update.

Nga mihi
