Taonga Puoro – Demonstration and Public Lecture by Richard Nunnz and Horomona Horo

Kia ora whanau, Hope you all hada awesome weekend and rest after the many events that took place last week. We had our Contemporary Tools Wananga happening early last week which required a lot of ‘man’ power.. lol, we were overly blessed on Wednesday to listen and witness a demonstration of Taonga Puoro by Dr Richard Nunnz and Horomona Horo – mentored by both Dr Nunnz and Dr Hirini Melbourne – two of the men credited for the revival of the art form. We also had a 21st to celebrate with one of our fellow colleauges and a tangi to attend today and one more tomorrow. Kia kaha whanau. Our thoughts are with you all at this time.

Busy, busy – As is the circle of life, we live, love, learn, and sometimes loose the ones we love but life goes on and we must celebrate and work hard everyday to make sure we achieve what we came here for. Tihei mauri ora!

Back to the kaupapa… it is time to share some of the images of the Traditional Maori Instruments being revived by these gentlemen – captured from our magical day with Dr Richard Nunnz and Horomona Horo.

From all my fellow students and myself I would like to thank you both soo much for taking the time to share your taonga, korero, waiata and presence with us – even if only for a day – where you took me in my mind was such a beautiful journey of reflection in my life and I am ever so grateful that we got to spend the day in this peacful, tranquil moment – reminding me to take time everyday to slow down in this crazy world and acknowledge and embrace the natural world of sound, light and nature. I wish you well on your journey and I hope that many more people are able to experience what you shared with us.
