I hope you have all been enjoying the couple of warm days we have had of late.
It’s been great not having to light the fire, lol. Just wear more clothes. 🙂
This weeks blog is about re-visiting last weeks objective which was to attend: Te Reo Wananga with Toihoukura – Maori School of Arts and Design. We left on the Monday, departing for Rangitukia on the bus. We stopped at Taharora Marae just past Waipiro Bay township for a powhiri by the local Tangata Whenua.
We got to observe inside the beautiful wharenui along with the amazing tukutuku and painting within the wharekai. One of our Tutors :Tina Wirihana – was a part of the project in 1989.. of installing the tukutuku and whariki within the house.
We continued  on our journey to Hinepare Marae, where we stayed and spent the first three days with solid two hour blocks of 3-4 sessions of different classes and tutors who introduced us to a mixture of Kiiwaha, Grammar of the Reo, Moteatea/Waiata and Reo Toi we can use within our Art Practice.
On the Thursday we were on the bus tiki touring around Tikitiki and other coastal Maraes in the area.
My favourite place we visited was Rahui Marae.. (Above )where the inside of the Wharekai had these amazing (turapa panels with Whakairo and Kowhaiwhai paintings around them).
This was an awesome wananga and I really enjoyed all the classes and different ways of tutoring. Thank you to all the tutors and Staff of Toihoukura for making this happen for us students.

I do not drop a comment, however I looked
through some remarks here Te Reo Wananga.. Hinepare Marae, Rangitukia | Whirinaki Works.
I do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright. Is it only me or does it seem like a few of the remarks appear as if they are coming from brain dead visitors? 😛 And, if you are posting at additional places, I’d like to follow you.

In answer2ure 1st question… These are not remarks of the brain dead.. however this is a record and account of an event that took place with my school on my whenua, culturally and spiritually, expressed through my own experience..I do not expect u 2 understand – it is my connection to the earth.. as diverse as I’m sure your culture is in its own way2u..
